Saturday, 10-1: Annual turkey drive for the food shelf
November 10, 2020 | By Dani Kehlmann
For over a decade, the Waterbury Area Food Shelf has provided Thanksgiving turkeys and traditional meal fixings to those in our community in need of assistance. The Waterbury Rotary Club has kindly helped us hold our annual Turkey Drive for the past two years in order to ensure that we can continue supporting our friends and neighbors who need some help. This year, we expect to distribute around 120 meals.
So, bring those frozen turkeys to the Food Shelf at 57 South Main St. on Saturday, Nov. 14, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. You do not even have to get out of your car! We will gladly take them through the window or from your car.
In 2019 the food shelf collected 126 turkeys, setting an all-time record. In addition to turkeys, other donations such as monetary gifts, non-perishables, and perishable holiday items such as hams or cheese are welcome and appreciated.
With many thanks to the Rotary Club for sponsorship of the event, Village Market for storing many of our turkeys in their freezers, S.T. Paving and Bourne’s Energy for their ongoing support of the event.
And of course, thanks to all of the local residents who contribute, for continuing to show what a truly caring and supportive community the town of Waterbury has.
