Plans are coming together for a Christmas tree bonfire at Anderson Park.

Recreation Director Katarina Lisaius said the date is set for Friday, January 12.

People may drop off trees anytime at the park between the baseball field and tennis courts, she said. Trees should be cleaned off with no decorations or tinsel on them.

The annual event often includes a skating party at the outdoor ice rink at the downtown park. So far, however, ice has not been made due to mild weather.

Members of Boy Scout Troop 701 are organizing a collection effort again this year. They will collect trees from around town on Saturday morning, Jan. 6, for a suggested donation of $20. All proceeds will go to the Waterbury Common Market (formerly the Waterbury Area Food Shelf).

If you would like to have your tree picked up, please sign up using this online form by 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 4. Questions? Send an email to troop701webmaster@gmail.com.

This post will be updated with more information as it becomes available.
