Moretown ‘birthday party for the trees’ to move mostly indoors on Saturday

Organizers of a Saturday Celebration of the Trees program in Moretown say they have altered their plans to be mostly indoors given the frigid weather in the forecast.

The Living Tree Alliance, a family Jewish education and co-housing center and farm, plans the “birthday party for the trees” for all ages to mark the tradition of Tu B Shvat from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“We changed the program to be mostly indoors since it’s predicted to be SO cold!” an update says on the center’s website.

Led by educators Melanie Grubman and Kohenet Sephirah Oshkello, activities will include storytelling, forest games and earth stewardship discussions. Andrea Soberman of Musical Munchkins will lead a musical program for children.

Those who want to brave the weather and connect with a tree and the natural world should dress warmly, organizers say, for a brief period outdoors. The event ends with a potluck. Attendees are asked to bring a dish. Suggested donation: $18.
