The Mad River Resource Management Alliance will host its annual spring Household Hazardous Waste collection Saturday, May 8, at Harwood Union High School from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Local residents and small businesses from Waterbury as well as Moretown, Fayston, Waitsfield and Warren may drop off oil and latex architectural paint, pesticides, and up to 10 gallons of household hazardous waste free of charge.

Alliance Manager John Malter reminds the public that the collection cannot accept compressed gases, fire extinguishers, explosives or any radioactive or infectious materials.

To follow COVID-19 protocols, those dropping off are asked to wear a mask and have all items in a trunk or truck bed for volunteers to unload easily.

Important note for Duxbury residents and businesses: Duxbury is not a member town in the Mad River alliance. It belongs to the Central Vermont Solid Waste Management District where residents can participate in hazardous waste collections for a $20 fee per vehicle. To participate in this collection at Harwood, Duxbury residents will be charged $20, Malter said.

For more information, contact Malter at 244-7373.
