Watercolors by Pauline Nolte
A new four-week watercolor art program begins Sept. 11 at the Waterbury Public Library.
If you’ve ever wanted to put paint to paper and create colorful images, check out the class led by painter Pauline Nolte titled, “Discover your Creative Self through Watercolor Painting” for beginners and artists.
A self-described amateur dabber, Nolte has published a collaborative project, illustrating her friend Archita Mehta Buch’s book of poems called, “Sea Shells: Soulful Journeys, 2nd Edition,” which she said was “a most fun and fulfilling endeavor.”
The Monday series starts Sept. 11 and runs from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All supplies are provided by the library although participants are encouraged to bring any favorite brushes, paint or paper.
This is a wonderful way to see if watercolor painting is for you without investing in the supplies. Whether you have never painted before, painted in the past, or are painting now, join fellow artists to create art together.
Register by sending an email to judi@waterburypubliclibrary.com. If there is interest, Pauline will continue the class beyond Oct. 2, meeting weekly.
Sept. 23: A morning of poetry
The library welcomes Samn Stockwell with her newly launched poetry collection titled, “Musical Figures,” on Saturday, Sept. 23 from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
With five distinct sections, this poetry book revives the author’s childhood dreams and nightmares.
John Skoyles, author of “Driven,” says in Stockwell’s collection, “moments of family history are relayed in crisp narratives fueled by lyricism. The combination of storytelling and musical phrasing result in poems both powerful and true. Above all, the voice is captivating: revealing everything in an understated manner, no matter the violence or catastrophe encountered, so that the reader leaves this hard-bitten, hardscrabble life with a sense of optimism and even well-being, as the speaker has remained calm, compassionate and credible, a survivor, and these are the hallmarks of her work.”
Also on the program is local writer Mary Rose Dougherty who will read from a manuscript in progress.
A delightful, captivating morning of poetry will certainly serve to open your mind, expand your awareness, and engross your senses.
