Oct. 8: Honeybee Steelband
They won first place for performers in the July 3 parade in Montpelier and now Honeybee Steelband visits Waterbury on Oct. 8 at the Waterbury Public Library.
From noon to 2 p.m., the band will plan its lively, infectious, upbeat music with a bee-related theme in the Steele Community Room.
Founded by lead tenor player Emily Lanxner in collaboration with the environmental group Mobilization for Pollinator Survival based in Hardwick, Honeybee Steelband has been delighting audiences since 2015 with its unique sound and mission.
Imagine “The Flight of the Bumblebee” on the steel pans. Honeybee Steelband has a full repertoire of bee tunes and after the concert, there will be time for questions and answers about pollinators. What are the issues? How are pollinators being affected whether through coated seeds or endangered habitats, and what does the future hold?
This fun, educational and celebratory event is sponsored by the Friends of the Waterbury Public Library. Refreshments will be served.
Oct. 12: Board Game Night returns
Robert (he/him) and Z (they/them) have come out of retirement to host the popular Board Game Night events monthly at the Waterbury Public Library starting on Wednesday, Oct. 12.
Robert and Z are super-excited to share their love of gaming with the community with a focus on euro-style designer board games with a mix of chance and skill. The games take about 10-15 minutes to explain and playing time is usually 20-45 minutes. (Rule discussions have a 5-min. time limit.)
If you’ve ever wanted to play but felt intimidated, this is a perfect group for you. Open to ages 18+.
Dates and times: Second Wednesdays of the month except for November, Oct. 12, Nov. 30, Dec. 14. All sessions are scheduled for 6-8 p.m.
