The annual Halloween pilgrimage of ghosts and goblins to the Elm and Randall street neighborhood is fast approaching and the annual candy collection ahead of time has begun.

With collection boxes in several locations around town, community members who don’t live in the popular Halloween neighborhood can give residents there a hand with amassing the needed candy supply for the stream of hundreds of trick-or-treaters expected on Oct. 31.

Neighborhood residents have put boxes at both Brookside Primary and Crossett Brook Middle schools as well as at the Waterbury Public Library. Donations of treats may be dropped off in the boxes through Oct. 28, according to organizers. The collection will then be distributed to residents.

Ahead of the annual Halloween celebration, the Waterbury Select Board has approved closing Elm and Randall streets to vehicle traffic from 4 to 9 p.m. on Halloween night from the municipal parking lot on Elm Street to the end of Randall Street at the intersection with Park Row.
