Axel’s Gallery and Frame Shop opens the doors on a new multi-artist visual arts show on Wednesday, June 22.

Titled “Elemental Reduction,” Chris Copley has curated a group show of four artists with connections to the Green Mountain State. Copley has drawn from creative talent he has crossed paths with in his career.

“Elemental Reduction” of shape and color highlights diverse style and the opportunity to appreciate work with uncluttered fields and visual simplicity, explains gallery owner Whitney Aldrich.

Artists Jim Bruce, Tally Groves, Maurizio Molin and Michael Montanaro use limited color palettes and simple subject matters combined with inspiration from surrounding landscapes. Their diverse styles converge for this exhibition from June 22 until July 17.

Aldrich offers brief introductions:

  • Jim Bruce is an artist and maker exploring emotion through color, texture and imagery. His realistic oil paintings of flowers float upon gilded canvas stages.

  • Eager to add color to her life, Tally Groves uses layers of oil paints and sticks to rocket her folk-style barn paintings to the moon.

  • Maurizio Molin’s vibrantly colored geometric abstractions are exciting compositions highlighting how moving simple color and shapes can be.

  • Michael Montanaro presents a series of predominately black-and-white Zen-like landscapes that are an ode to the artist's idea of a perfect harmony and balance with nature.

The artists will visit Axel’s for a reception on Saturday, June 25, from noon-2 p.m. at Axel’s Gallery. This event is free.
