Revitalizing Waterbury has announced the hiring of a new economic development director for Waterbury.

Owen Sette-Ducati started work in the position this week, according to Executive Director Karen Nevin.

Most recently, Sette-Ducati was head of the ski department at Outdoor Gear Exchange in Burlington following his graduation from the University of Vermont in December 2021.

While at UVM, Sette-Ducati served as a legislative policy intern for state Rep. Katherine Sims, D-Craftsbury, focusing on forest-based businesses and the biofuel industry.  He was also a research development team leader in the Center for Research on Vermont analyzing best practices for UVM’s Communities of Practice internship program.

Sette-Ducati replaces Mark Pomilio Jr. who served as economic development director for the past two and half years and resigned in September to take a new position out of state.

Nevin said she received “outstanding applications from throughout Vermont” for the job. “Owen stood out for his energy and enthusiasm as well as his understanding of the importance of connecting the community with the goals of economic development.  We are truly lucky to have him on board,” she said in announcing the new hire.

The position of economic development director is a unique one in local governance as it is funded by taxpayer dollars from the town but managed as part of the Revitalizing Waterbury staff under a memorandum of understanding for economic development services between RW and the town government.

Sette-Ducati lives in Burlington and has family in the Mad River Valley.
