Revitalizing Waterbury announced this week that it has filled the position of economic development director for Waterbury.

Mark Pomilio Jr. has taken the job that’s funded through the municipal budget as part of the staff at Revitalizing Waterbury. Pomilio recently moved to Vermont and has started at work, Executive Director Karen Nevin said.

Pomilio most recently spent two years as a Community Economic Development Volunteer with the Peace Corps in a small town in Paraguay, South America. He worked with small business owners and professionals teaching successful business practices and working with entrepreneurs and students to turn ideas into business plans.

At the University of Arizona, Pomilio majored in Economy and Industry with a minor in Spanish.

He was hired following a search that drew applicants from Vermont and across the United States.  “Mark stood out for his energy and enthusiasm as well as his understanding of the importance of connecting the community with the goals of economic development,” Nevin said. “We are truly lucky to have him on board.”

Pomilio replaced Alyssa Johnson who resigned at the end of 2020 after two and a half years in the position.
