Nominations are now open for the Vermont Chamber of Commerce’s annual Citizen of the Year award to an outstanding Vermont figure.

The chamber explains that this award is presented to an individual “who has made major contributions to the betterment of Vermont, has been distinguished through outstanding service to their community and region, and typifies the true spirit of service and self-sacrifice in representing the finest ideals of Vermont citizenship.”

Submissions may be made online. The deadline to make a nomination is Feb. 16. The winner will be presented with the award at a celebration in May.

Previous recipients include former U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy, Barbara Snelling, Antonio Pomerleau and Ken Squier. The award dates back to 1964 and is sponsored by Hickok & Boardman Insurance Group.

The nonprofit Vermont Chamber of Commerce is a leading statewide business advocacy organization.
